SUGAFES

I'm so excited to write about SUGAFES!

Well in short explanation, SUGAFES stands for Summer Game Festival. It's was an event hosted by Malaysian Korean Student Association or recognized as Persatuan Pelajar Malaysia Korea (PPMK) and this year was the first time PPMK held two events which are culture and indoor games in a big event like this.

This time, I played two roles in SUGAFES which were crew and a participant.

Yeah, it seemed like I'm greedy but this was the only opportunities for me where I can give my contribution 100% fully towards my own batch 15 and also as member of PPMK.
I know I sounded like too confident with myself but believe me, you can't deny what I said was wrong. You want to know why??

As a participant:

1.  I  can't hold my passion toward fashion design from not to participate "Ratu Gawai" competition for the second time.

last year design for the same competition.

At first, I was unsure with my decision about participate again for this year.

Last year my team won the competition. So, I can't avoid from feeling burden and afraid if this year my team can't keep the good work to maintain at first place. In harsh words, I was afraid that the designed piece was a failure and we lost.  As my motto is "I don't join competition for fun to lose but to win".

Even though we had tough competitors, due to my high level confidence talking in front of people I managed to grab people attention towards our design by explaining very details about the pieces with informative fact to appreciate the beautiful of Sarawak’s culture.

it was our turn to show the pieces.

2.  I have a great team mates and batch mates who are always support me.

A week before the competition, my model can’t make it due to some problems and I had to find someone else to replace her. If I can’t find a suitable model, the chance to win is tiny or maybe I end up by giving up the competition. I was at the end of road.

The only person left was she.  She was the only person who had free time on the day of competition but she was little bit reluctant to be model as being model needs a lot of courageous to do catwalks and talk in front of people. I was begging her so much to be the one as we were really in desperate situation where we need to decide the design and divide the early preparation before the day of competition.

Therefore, I was very grateful that she accepted my offer and took the challenge to be model.  I know it was not an easy decision for her. Without her, my team would not be made it to the end.

I also not forget to my other two team mates who were willingly to sacrifice their time to finish the preparations in spite of their busy schedule with study and commitment toward other things.
the best team mates

Lastly, my sporting batch mates who believed toward my team mates. They also helped my team to collect votes by attending the event. Since we have a huge member of batch 15, it was not easy to collect sticker vote from them as not everyone in my batch mates knew me. Well, I am not famous! So please do understand my limited network of people.

As a crew,

1. I can't destroy the trust given by PPMK to hold responsibilities as one of the volunteer for the SUGAFES event.

Maybe some of you think "what a big deal being a volunteer?" or "such a dramatic girl. You were not the bureau of PPMK ".  I know I'm being fussy about small thing but if you were in my shoes, who was a candidate that been rejected 3 times from the position of main bureau until the  sub-bureau position in any association, you will understand on why being selected as volunteer had made my day.

2. I was lucky to be chosen to do volunteer work in decorating team.

In more specific term, I was in charge to decorate photo corner. I was so glad as I am good with things related to decor compare to other teams such as management for sport, registration participants or food.

What's more exciting was I bravely share my thoughts about what should we do for the photo corner with other teammates. Truly, I was little bit scared what they might going to respond if I talk too much in group. As I'm the only junior in the team while others are my seniors. However, they gladly accepted some of my ideas and at that time I really felt like I'm useful person.

After a few discussions with my team, I had to make the banner for the photo corner. I took around 3 days to settle it by staying up until 3 o'clock in the morning due to limited time. My housemates said that I'm too passionate in making it and yeah it's true. For me, the volunteer work given was not a burden but was an escape for me to do what I love for a reason.

the photo corner which fully done by me and other's crew. what a satisfying to see this!
she was the one of crew mates who helped me to set up the backdrop of photo corner and made my day on the night before the event day.

The SUGAFES wrapped up very well. The photo booth was great and my team won the competition. Good jobs to everyone.

never thought we were selected to be one of the featured persons in PPMK's Instagram

I ended my writing here. Till we meet in the next entry!

Sincerely,
